About the Department
Undergraduate StudiesWe offer the only B.S. degree in Microbiology in Oregon, training about 130 majors. 95% of graduates are employed in their field or are engaged in further studies (graduate or professional, particularly medicine and allied fields) 3 months after graduation. |

Graduate StudiesWe train about 30 graduate students earning M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Microbiology faculty also train graduate students enrolled in related programs such as Molecular & Cellular Biology, Genetics, Soil Science, Fisheries & Wildlife, and Oceanography. Graduate students are major contributors to the research output of the department. |

ResearchWe conduct research on a broad range of subjects covering viruses, bacteria and parasites and their roles in the health of the environment and humans, animals and plants. Our research serves the missions of the College of Agricultural Sciences and the College of Science and we work closely with scientists in local biotechnology companies. |
