Microbiology Major Requirements

 

Microbiology majors must have a minimum of 36 credits in upper division microbiology with a 2.0 minimum grade point average.  All students must take MB 302, 303, 310, 311, & 312.

After completing these required courses, 22 hours of 400-level microbiology are required; 2 hours must come from a 400 level MB laboratory class.  BOT 350 (Introduction to Plant Pathology) and BOT 461 (Mycology) count as 400-level microbiology.  Research (401)/Reading and Conference (405)/Thesis (403)/Internship (410) cannot account for more than 3 of the 22 required hours; teaching experience (406) can account for 3 hours as well. Any additional hours in these areas will count as elective credit.  

All required science courses (MTH 251, 252; CH 221, 222, 223, 331, 332, 337; PH 201, 202, 203; BB 450, 451; BI 211, 212, 213, 314; ST 351; or acceptable substitutes) & MB courses must be taken for a grade. CH 324 can be taken S/U but not if student wants a chemistry minor. CH 390 cannot be substituted for CH 324.

Microbiology Minor Requirements

All Microbiology minors are required to take MB 302, MB 303, MB310, MB 311, and MB 312.  The remaining 13 required hours must come from 400 level microbiology courses, including one 400 level laboratory course.  Not more than 3 of these credit hours can come from MB 401. Other blanket courses cannot be used to satisfy the minor requirement.
