Writing Manual
The Microbiology WIC Writing Manual was originally developed for use in MB 311, Molecular Microbiology Lab, which is the Microbiology Department’s Writing Intensive Course (WIC). The goal was to develop a guide for writing laboratory reports in the Department of Microbiology, using standard formats that are widely accepted in the field. The guide is written specifically to aide undergraduate students in microbiology in writing scientific reports in an acceptable format. Emphasis is placed on the proper writing style (voice) and format for a scientific paper, summaries of key rules, the proper way to cite references within a paper, the accurate and objective presentation of data, the avoidance of plagiarism, and the appropriate use of information from websites. Practical examples are included in order to demonstrate specific points.
