Why a Degree in Microbiology at Oregon State?
A B.S. in Microbiology can set you on a successful career path: three months after graduation, 95% of recent graduates have been employed in a microbiology-related field or accepted to a program for further education (graduate school or medically-related professional school).
With about 300 majors, we are small enough to offer personalized attention to each student.
A requirement for three upper level Microbiology lab courses, combined with opportunities for experience in research laboratories, results in hands-on expertise that provides an advantage in the job market.
Most of our undergraduate majors participate in research activities in conjunction with professors, postdoctoral and graduate students. This experience can be a stepping stone to graduate studies. Higher ranking students can participate as teaching assistants, gaining valuable experience in instruction and supervision. Oregon State has the only Microbiology Program in Oregon for both Undergraduate and Graduate degrees. A degree in Microbiology fulfills all the requirements for medical school. Some additional courses are required for dentistry, pharmacy, physician assistant programs, nursing and veterinary science. This link provides all the information for applying to medical school.
